This is the privacy policy for Westfield Capital Ltd., a professional services firm operating out of Calgary, Alberta. We wrote this in plain English on purpose — because a privacy policy nobody can understand doesn't actually protect anyone.
What We Collect and Why
When you fill out the contact form on our site, we collect your name, email address, phone number (if you provide it), organization name, and whatever you type in the message field. We collect this because you're reaching out to us and we need a way to respond. That's it. We don't collect data in the background to build advertising profiles or sell to third parties.
Cookies — the Digital Kind
Our site uses a small number of cookies. When you click "Accept" or "Decline" on the cookie banner, we store that preference in your browser's local storage so we don't keep asking you. If you accept cookies, we may use Google Analytics to understand how visitors move through the site — which pages get visited, how long people stay, and where they come from. This helps us figure out if our content is useful or if we need to rewrite something.
We don't use cookies to track you across other websites. And if you decline, we respect that — no analytics cookies are loaded.
Google Analytics and Google Ads
We use Google Analytics to measure site traffic. Google Analytics collects anonymized data about your visit — things like your general location (city-level, not your address), what device and browser you're using, and which pages you viewed. This data is aggregated, meaning we see trends, not individuals.
We may also use Google Ads to reach potential clients through search advertising. When you click a Google Ad to reach our site, Google may use cookies to measure ad performance. This data stays within Google's platform and helps us understand which ads are working and which aren't.
Who Sees Your Data
Your contact form submissions are seen by the Westfield Capital team — specifically, the person who handles initial client inquiries (usually Sarah or Rachel). We don't share your information with marketing companies, data brokers, or any third party. The only external services that process any site data are Google Analytics and Google Ads, and both operate under their own privacy policies.
Your Rights
You have the right to ask us what data we hold about you. You have the right to request that we delete it. And you have the right to opt out of analytics tracking at any time. To exercise any of these rights, just send an email to [email protected]. We'll respond within five business days.
How to Opt Out of Tracking
You have several options:
- Click "Decline" on our cookie banner — this prevents analytics cookies from loading
- Use your browser's built-in settings to block third-party cookies
- Install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on (free from Google)
- Enable "Do Not Track" in your browser settings
Data Retention
Contact form submissions are retained for 24 months, then deleted. Analytics data is retained for 14 months within Google Analytics, after which it's automatically purged. If you ask us to delete your data earlier, we will.
Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and note what changed. For significant changes, we'll display a notice on the site. We won't quietly rewrite this document and hope nobody notices.
